Notes from Natalie
You guys…
As much of a pain in the butt as this histamine-free thing has been (and trust me, it’s basically a part-time job at this point), my head is SO clear.
I feel calm. Focused. Patient. I’m doing things slowly. Like… actually cooking without multitasking or burning something. Who even am I right now?
I don’t plan to live hyper vigilant forever, but I’m pretty sure a low-histamine lifestyle is here to stay. I had no idea how tightly histamine, cortisol, and the nervous system were all holding hands this whole time.
Here’s the wild part. So many people who’ve been labeled “ADHD” are actually living in a high cortisol, high histamine state. That wired but tired feeling, the racing thoughts, the constant restlessness…it’s not always ADHD. Sometimes it’s your body running on stress chemistry. Over active nervous systems.
When histamine and adrenaline stay high, your brain races. Cortisol floods your system and narrows focus. You feel “on,” but it’s really just survival mode. And over time, your brain starts thinking that chaos is normal. Once you calm the inflammation and lower cortisol, your real brain finally shows up to work.
That’s what’s happening for me. I’m slowing down, breathing deeper, scheduling intentionally, saying no to chaos, and only saying yes to what lights me up. There’s a whole new version of me showing up lately… one who apparently chops veggies calmly and doesn’t live in a permanent state of “GO!”
And no, I’m not telling everyone to go histamine-free. Don’t panic, ha. But I am saying that surrendering to this process instead of fighting it has been a massive mindset shift. Gratitude really does sneak in where frustration used to live.
